Our hearts are with the people and communities affected by the devastating flood in the Tibetan Plateau and Himalayan region.
At Bravo Tea, our roots run deep on the Tibetan Plateau, the “Roof of the World,” where we grow many of our herbs in the clean, high-altitude environment that gives our teas their purity and potency. This week, that same region and the neighboring Himalayan valleys have been struck by a devastating disaster. On August 26, a glacier collapse triggered catastrophic flash floods debris flows along the Tibet–Nepal border. Communities in Gyirong County (Tibet) and districts in Nepal were hit by a powerful surge of water, ice, rock, and mud.
Hundreds of lives have been lost, more than a thousand people remain missing (including many travelers and pilgrims), and homes, roads, bridges, and infrastructure have been destroyed. Rescue teams continue their work amid ongoing risks from barrier lakes formed by the debris. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, the families searching for loved ones, the rescue workers, and the communities now facing the long road of recovery.
The Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding mountains are not just the source of our herbs; they are home to people whose lives and livelihoods are tied to this fragile, beautiful landscape.
